Old Fashioned Hamburger Steak Onion Gravy

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

1 egg

1/4 cup bread crumbs

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and black pepper to taste

2 tablespoons oil or butter (for cooking)

1 large onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions:

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.

Form the mixture into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.

In a large skillet, heat the oil or butter over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides until cooked through, about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until soft and golden, about 5–7 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

Gradually stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the pan. Bring to a simmer until the gravy thickens.

Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning some gravy over the top. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to heat through.

Serve the hamburger steaks hot, topped with the onion gravy.
