Amish White Bread (Soft, Fluffy & Homemade Classic)
This Amish White Bread recipe creates a soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet loaf that’s perfect for sandwiches, toast, and everyday meals. It’s an easy homemade bread recipe that delivers bakery-style results with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients
2 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
⅔ cup granulated sugar
1½ tablespoons active dry yeast
1½ teaspoons salt
¼ cup vegetable oil
6 cups all-purpose flour

Preparation

In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add salt and oil, then gradually mix in flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and divide into two equal portions. Shape into loaves and place into greased 9×5-inch loaf pans. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes until dough rises above the pan edge.

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack before slicing. For extra-soft bread, brush the tops with melted butter right after baking.
Make sure water is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
For best texture, knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Store bread tightly wrapped to keep it fresh longer.
